Web Stuff - Blogging, Design, and Development

I've been out of the world of web design for some time now, making a graceful exit in 2005 as I felt it was being commodified. I've since been getting back into it with work for The Second Glass and livewith.us, a startup I'm working on that's designed to streamline roommate finances and communication.

livewith.us

livewith.us is a startup I'm working on and getting ready to launch in collaboration with some of my roommates. It seeks to solve the recurring issue of roommate finances and communication and replace the ad-hoc systems (the front of the fridge, a Google spreadsheet, a series of IOU notes) that all roommates develop to help manage living together.

livewith.us itself is a full-fledged web application is built on the excellent Django web framework.

We're currently in closed beta and plan to begin our open beta in Fall 2010.

Justice Kitchen

Justice Kitchen is a food blog I've been working on on-and-off over the last few months.

Justice Kitchen is all about cooking affordable, hearty, novel foods that are easy to prepare, good for a crowd, described with clever commentary, and illustrated with pleasing photos.

Eventually, I'd like to add some cocktail recipes and start featuring guest authors, but it's a strictly spare time project for now, so progress has been slow.

There are also a lot of breakfast recipes, because I love a good breakfast to start the day more than anything else.

wackyfun.net

wackyfun.net

wackyfun.net was my personal site from around 2000 to 2006. Its main attractions were a tagged digital gallery of snapshots (“wacky pictures”), and movies I’d made. The last version of the site before taking it down was a custom Wordpress template made to be visually interesting but quick-loading and lean, and included a good amount of database-driven dynamic content: a multi-user blog, polls, user comments, and searchable pictures.

The previous version featured a Flash-driven interface (because that was cool at the time, which was like 2002, okay?) and a different look in general, but used the same bold black/yellow color scheme.

Ultrasonic Positioning System Site

I created this site quickly to present information about an ultrasonic positioning system I built with a team for a Principles of Engineering class my sophomore year at Olin College. The system provides short-range positioning using principles similar to GPS with fairly high accuracy using ultrasonic sound.

The priority in design was speed, although I also paid great attention to making it fully standards compliant and full of gradients, as was the style at the time.

GTI Designs

GTI Designs is a Long Island-based company that imports and installs Italian gelato equipment. I worked with Barto Bellati over Summer 2004 to come up with a new look for GTI's site. The new look is modern, sleek, and uncluttered -- the goal being to provide a website that lives up to the image of a high-end design company.

Lindsay duPont

Lindsaydupont.com is the portfolio of illustrator Lindsay duPont, and was some work I did in 2004. The site is designed to mimic the look of the NYC subway system and to provide an elegant yet playful showcase for Lindsay's artwork.
